Ductile iron is a high-strength cast iron material, its comprehensive performance is close to steel. Ductile iron is spheroidal graphite obtained by spheroidization and inoculation treatment, which effectively improves the mechanical properties of cast iron, especially the plasticity and toughness, so as to obtain higher strength than carbon steel. It is based on its excellent performance, has been successfully used for casting some complex force, strength, toughness, wear resistance requirements of the higher parts. Ductile iron castings have developed into a cast iron material that is second only to gray iron and is widely used. The so-called "iron on behalf of steel", mainly refers to the ductile iron.

Ductile iron castings are obtained by spheroidization and inoculation treatment of spherical graphite, which effectively improves the mechanical properties of cast iron. The chemical composition of ductile iron castings must be guaranteed to meet the specified ductile iron grades and corresponding mechanical properties.

Today we talk about the production of ductile iron parts note:

1. Strictly require chemical composition, the carbon and silicon content required for the original iron liquid is higher than that of gray cast iron, and the content of manganese, phosphorus and sulfur in ductile iron is reduced;

2. The temperature of molten iron is higher than that of gray cast iron to compensate for spheroidization and the loss of molten iron temperature during inoculation treatment;

3, the spheroidization treatment, that is, to add spheroidizing agent to the iron liquid;

4. Adding inoculant for inoculation treatment;

5, ductile iron has poor fluidity and large shrinkage, so it needs higher pouring temperature and larger pouring system size, reasonable application of riser, cold iron, and the principle of sequential solidification;

6. Ductile iron castings need heat treatment.
